VCOM/USB support on Linux is heavily dependant on your chosen Linux distro's driver support, as Ingenico does not supply a Linux driver. It is typically recommended to use an RS-232 (serial) or Ethernet connection when using an iSelf with Linux if driver support is unknown on your chosen distro. Configuring the ChipDNA config file. The Ingenico iSMP4 is a lightweight, Wi-Fi connected device that makes it easy to accept payments on the go, including MSR (magnetic stripe), EMV (chip), and NFC (contactless) payments. Connected directly to Bolt via a Wi-Fi connection, the iSMP4 protects your transactions with a powerful combination of EMV technology and point-to-point encryption (P2PE), making each transaction secure and PCI compliant.

This article offers an overview of the iSMP4, as well as general information for ordering and setting up the device. Benefits

By integrating the iSMP4 with your Bolt P2PE solution, you can:

  • Minimize your scope of PCI compliance with point-to-point encryption. Your Bolt device encrypts sensitive card data and transmits it over over a secure HTTPS connection.

  • Accept all payment types, including MSR (magnetic swipe), EMV (chip), and NFC (contactless).
  • Easily add devices without making changes to your existing integrations.

Supported Connection Types

The iSMP4 requires a connection to a password-protected Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth and certificate-based authentication are not currently supported. See Secure Network Configuration Best Practices for information for creating or configuring your network.

The iSMP4 uses the WPA-PSK security protocol for authentication on your Wi-Fi network. WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access II Pre-Shared Key) requires you to enter a network name (SSID) and password (WPA-PSK) to authenticate and connect the device to your network. See Configuring the iSMP4 Wi-Fi Settings for more information.

Secure Network Configuration Best-Practices

CardConnect recommends the following best practices for configuring your network for the iSMP4:

  • Configure a DHCP IP address range to connect terminal devices to a dedicated subnet. Alternatively, use static IP addresses reserved for the devices.
  • Configure a new WPA Wi-Fi (with password requirement) network for the new device subnet. Optionally, access to the network can be restricted to the specific MAC address or IP address of the device. For extended security, you can restrict the services or ports that are allowed to communicate over the network.

Before you begin, ensure that the iSMP4 device is fully charged before you attempt to configure and use it for the first time. Failure to fully charge the device prior to its first use can result in the loss of data stored in the device memory. The initial charging time is approximately 4 hours.

Accessing and Navigating the Bolt S.O.S. Menu

Driver

The Bolt S.O.S. menu allows you to access the device Version, Date and Time, Server Properties, Ethernet Properties and Offline Mode.

  • Press F, 7, 6, 7 on the device's number pad to access the Bolt S.O.S. menu.
  • Press F1 to navigate left.
  • Press F2 to navigate down.
  • Press F3 to navigate up.
  • Press F4 to navigate right.
  • Press O (green button) to select.
  • Press < (yellow button) to clear.
  • Press X (red button) to cancel or return to the main menu.

Entering Text Using the Multi-Tap Method

This method involves using the keypad to enter numbers and letters. Each number key also represents a set of letters that can be entered with that key, if pressed more than once. The first key press will enter the number, while pressing the key multiple times will enter one of the letters associated with that number key. Examples are given below.

  • Press 2once to enter the number 2.
  • Press 2 twice to enter a lowercase a.
  • Press 2 three times to enter a lowercase b.
  • Press 2 four times to enter a lowercase c.
  • Press 2 five times to enter a capital A.
  • Press 2 six times to enter a capital B.
  • Press 2 seven times to enter a capital C.

Entering Text Using the On-Screen Keyboard

Some text inputs may provide an on-screen keyboard or number pad. Use the navigation buttons (F1, F2, F3, F4) to highlight the character you wish to enter, then press O (green button) to enter it into the text box.

Configuring the iSMP4 Wi-Fi Settings

When the iSMP4 powers on for the first time, the device displays 'Unbolted.' This indicates that the device is not connected to the internet, and therefore is not able to connect to your software.

Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network

To scan for and connect to your Wi-Fi network, do the following:

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S. menu.
  2. Press F2 to scroll down and highlight Wifi Properties.
  3. Press O (green button) to selectWifi Properties.

  4. Press O (green button) to Scan for networks.
    A progress bar displays during the scan and once complete, a list of available Wi-Fi networks is shown.
  5. Press F2 to scroll down the list and press O (green button) to select the correct Wi-Fi network.

  6. Enter the Wi-Fi password using the multi-tap method or the on-screen keyboard and press O (green button) when finished.

  7. The device displays the message Profile for <Network Name> created.
  8. Press O (green button) to acknowledge the message.
  9. The iSMP4 displays a message that a restart is required and then automatically restarts.
  10. The device restarts, connects to the Wi-Fi, and displays Bolted at the bottom of the screen when ready for use.

If the device does not restart automatically, press and hold down the .,#* and < (Yellow) keys to manually reboot the device.

Manually Adding a Wi-Fi Profile

If the iSMP4 cannot detect or successfully connect to a network, or if you want to manually configure a connection, do the following:

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S. menu.
  2. Press F2 to scroll down and highlight Wifi Properties.
  3. Press O (green button) to select Wifi Properties.
  4. Press F2 to scroll down and press O (green button) to selectAdd Wifi Profile.

  5. Enter the Wi-Fi network name using the multi-tap method, and press O (green button).

  6. The device displays the network name. Press O (green button) to accept the name, or press X (red button) to return to the previous menu.

  7. Enter the Wi-Fi password using the multi-tap method or the on-screen keyboard and press O (green button) when finished.

  8. The device displays the message Profile for <Network Name> created.
  9. Press O (green button) to acknowledge the message.
  10. The iSMP4 displays a message that a restart is required and then automatically restarts.
  11. The device restarts, connects to the Wi-Fi, and displays Bolted at the bottom of the screen when ready for use.

If the device still displays 'Unbolted,' check the Wi-Fi connection status. If additional troubleshooting is required, contact our support team.

Deleting a Wi-Fi Profile

If you entered the network name incorrectly or need to connect to a new network, delete the previously stored Wi-Fi profile as follows:

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S. menu.
  2. Press F2 to scroll down and highlight Wifi Properties.
  3. Press O (green button) to selectWifi Properties.
  4. Press F2 to scroll down and highlight Delete Wifi Profile.
  5. Press O (green button) to select Delete Wifi Profile.
  6. Press O (green button) to select the Wi-Fi profile to delete.
  7. The device displays the message Profile <Network Name> deleted.

  8. Press O (green button) to acknowledge the message.

Checking the Wi-Fi Connection Status

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S. menu.
  2. Press F2 to scroll down and highlight Wifi Properties.
  3. Press O (green button) to select Wifi Properties.
  4. Press F2 to scroll down and press O (green button) to select Connection Status.
  5. The connection status is shown.

Restarting the iSMP4

Press and hold the .,#* key and < (yellow key) simultaneously to force the device to restart.

Connecting the Device

  1. Once your equipment is unboxed, plug the power supply connector into the jack on the Multipoint Interface Cable.
  2. Connect the Multipoint Interface Cable into the Multipoint Port on the back of the Bolt P2PE device.
  3. Connect the other end of the Multipoint Interface Cable to an Ethernet port (router, modem, wall jack, etc.).
  4. Plug the power supply adapter into an available power outlet.

Confirming Connectivity

  1. Once power is supplied to the the Bolt P2PE device, an initiation process begins.
  2. Once the device has successfully established its IP Address, it will attempt to call the Bolt service.
  3. If the connection is successful, the Bolt P2PE device displays Bolted
  4. If the connection is unsuccessful, the device displays Unbolted, at which point you can contact us for troubleshooting.
  5. Once Bolted, the device is ready for use. The device may be left on indefinitely or may be disconnected from power as necessary.

Setting a Static IP Address for Your Device

Setting a static IP address for your device is optional. Typically, the device is assigned an IP address automatically when connected to the network. To manually set the network settings for the device, follow the steps below.

  1. Check your device's firmware version to confirm it is version 1.6.1 or higher.
    If your device requires a firmware update, contact CardPointe Support.
  2. Press X (red button) on the device's number pad to return to the main menu.
  3. Press + to navigate down the the list to Ethernet Properties.
  4. Press O (green button) to select Ethernet Properties.
  5. Press < (yellow button) to toggle the setting from DHCP to Static.
  6. Press O (green button) to edit the static IP settings.
  7. Press + to cycle between the network setting fields. Press O (green button) to enter a new value using the device number pad. Press < (yellow button) to erase the last value.
  8. Press O (green button) to save the value and continue using + to cycle between fields until all the values have been entered.
  9. When finished, press O (green button) to save.
  10. Press O (green button) to continue with a terminal reset.

Checking Your Device's Firmware Version

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S menu.
  2. Press O (green button) to select Version in the menu list.
  3. The current firmware version installed is displayed on the screen. Press X (red button) to return to the main menu.

Device Unbolted

  1. Verify that you are using the provided multi-point mono connector (Ethernet) cable and power supply. The power supply plugs into the splitter on the Ingenico multi-point mono connector cable.
  2. Verify that the Ethernet jack on the multi-point mono connector cable is plugged securely into your router, modem, networking switch, or Ethernet wall jack.
  3. Verify that your device was provided by CardConnect, or your software provider.
  4. Consult with your IT administrator to verify that the Ethernet port being used has access to the Internet, and that your internal network whitelists Bolt P2PE traffic. This will ensure that a firewall is not blocking the connection.

Device Bolted but Unable to Connect to Application

  • Confirm with your software provider that the device configuration is correctly set within your application.
  • If the device configuration is set correctly, contact CardPointe Support for assistance.

Ingenico Driver Update

Device Restarting Unexpectedly

The most common cause for a device restarting during the day is the result of an inaccurate time setting on the device. Devices are configured to automatically restart at 4 AM local time. To update your time settings, follow the steps below.

  1. Access the Bolt S.O.S menu.
  2. Press F2 to navigate down the list to Date and Time.
  3. Press O (green button) to access Date and Time settings.
  4. Enter the current date using the device number pad.
  5. Press F2 to navigate down to the time.
  6. Enter the current time in 24-hour format (military time), using the device number pad.
  7. Press O (green button) to save your settings.

Command Cancelled Error

Check that the stylus is securely connected to the terminal. Without a connected stylus, the terminal aborts the signature process with a 'Command Cancelled' error.

PPS - 21 Invalid Merchant Error
