2008 National Awards

NDTA INTERNATIONAL CHAPTER OF THE YEAR - 2008
The Scott-St Louis Chapter is recognized as the NDTA International Chapter of the Year, 2008, Large Category, for their outstanding service to their local community, the NDTA and the United States. This year the Scott-St Louis Chapter had various community service projects to help support worthy causes within the community. Through their fund raising efforts they were able to donate $10,000 to help finance the construction of the Saint Louis Fisher House to support the families of Veterans Administration service recipients while they are hospitalized at the Jefferson Barracks facility. Through their association with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and their interaction with United States Transportation Command J5/4’s Distribution Academy and the Joint Logistician Training Program, they co-sponsored the TechNet Mid-America Conference to provide basic logistics training and professional development activities as well as provide an opportunity for cross communications with functional logistics and technology providers. Also, their A-35 committee designed, funded, and created a recreation room in the Scott Air Force Base Aeromedical Staging Facility to support those men and women who have been injured during their service in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan.

Master Sergeant Jason A. Eighmey is an Air Transportation Specialist for the Cargo and Traffic Management Branch responsible for developing Air Mobility Command policy and providing command-level guidance for 22 fixed and 180 remote aerial port locations which move 1.4M cargo tons and 4.6M passengers annually to maintain $1B in Transportation Working Capital Fund revenue.MSgt Eighmey shattered cultural paradigms by exploring the unconventional use of Transportation Priority-4 policies to maximize unused airlift capacity on flights returning to the Continental United States. He closely monitored 32 United States Central Command distribution lanes, increasing asset delivery efficiency by 45% and slashing cargo movement delays an amazing 55%. He also coordinated $100K worth of critical highline docks at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, enabling aerial port personnel to quick-turn C-17 aircraft, speeding delivery of 26K tons of add-on-armor vehicle kits to the warfighter in 90% less time than would otherwise have been possible. MSgt Eighmey authored the Intra-theater Civil Aviation Initiative Concept of Operations, which has since grown to encompass roughly 50% of all pallet positions moved within the United States Central Command Area of Responsibility.He is a highly revered member of the air transportation community and is truly deserving of this year’s National Defense Transportation Association’s International Junior Executive Award.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - Joseph Bonfiglio
Joseph Bonfiglio has distinguished himself for the past several years in the performance of his assigned duties with the United States Transportation Commands Directorate of Command, Control, Communications and Computers (TCJ6) and as a ten-year volunteer with the Scott-St. Louis Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association. As the Deputy Chairman of the Golf Committee, Joe has been instrumental in ensuring the success of this program. He has guided the design and development of each year’s program, making each bigger and better. Through our golf tournament, the Curry-Bonfiglio team has provided over $70,000 to our scholarship fund. This year, he has accepted the challenge to earn over $20,000 to support our scholarship event as well as supporting the St Louis Fisher House and so far, much to their credit, we are on track to accomplish this task. Also, Joe’s continuous support at Chapter meetings and other activities place him in the forefront of all our volunteers – he is always there to serve whenever the opportunity arises. Joseph Bonfiglio is truly deserving of the recognition provided by the awarding of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - David Curry
David Curry has distinguished himself for the past several years in the performance of his assigned duties with the United States Transportation Commands Directorate of Plans and Programs (TCJ5/4) and as a ten-year volunteer with the Scott-St. Louis Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association. While serving as Chairman of the Golf Committee for the past 5 years, Dave’s untiring efforts has led to over $70,000 for our scholarship program, providing in excess of $2,000 each to five or more deserving students annually. This year he has taken on the challenge to support not only our scholarship needs but also the added charitable cause of the supporting the St Louis Fisher House. The Chapter has set a goal of raising $20,000 this year. David has taken on this challenge by helping create and market a new program called the Triple Tee Club to meet this need. Also, Dave’s continuous support at Chapter meetings and other activities place him in the forefront of all our volunteers – he is always there to serve whenever the opportunity arises. David Curry is truly deserving of the recognition provided by the awarding of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - Tara Feilmeier
Ms. Tara Feilmeier has distinguished herself in the performance of her assigned duties with SRA International Corporation and as a volunteer with the Scott-St. Louis Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association. Through her foresight as the Assistant Programs Chairperson, she aptly controlled the dynamics of the monthly agenda while smoothly and efficiently coordinating activities. Tara is also an active A35 member as she assisted the set up our Mentor Protégé field trip to the Tri-City Port District and Gateway Commerce Center on the Mississippi River. This provided us an opportunity to see a multi-modal facility in action and to learn about the particulars of being within a free trade zone and what that means to businesses and government alike. Although Tara has significant responsibility already in the chapter, she was very active in supporting the design, funding and creation of the aeromedical staging facility (ASF) adopt a room project. She took a leadership role on the project by helping ask for and collect donations in the area. Overall they collected more than $5000 to support this project. She helped turn a small area within the hospital into a modern recreation room that will be an opportunity for the patients to enjoy a warm, hospitable environment during their stay in the hospital. Based on these and other contributions to the NDTA, Ms Feilmeier is truly deserving of the recognition provided by the awarding of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - Ms Cheryl Heimerman
Ms. Cheryl Heimerman has distinguished herself in the performance of her assigned duties with MITRE Corporation and as a volunteer with the Scott-St. Louis Chapter of the National Defense Transportation Association. As the leader of the Awards Committee for the past 2 years, Cheryl has done a great job in recognizing our membership for various different awards. She has worked to make sure they met all the requirements of the NDTA Awards Pamphlet and she also has edited every one of the submissions to ensure the quality we need to become winners. As a non-golfer, Cheryl felt there was a better way for our Chapter to meet the needs of our scholarship demands as well as our new donation cause, the St Louis Fisher House. After last year’s golf fund raising event, she took up the challenge to design an opportunity for everyone to be able to participate in the fund raising activities. She developed the Triple Tee Club that is designed for people to be recognized for their individual charitable donations that could help support our causes. Through her efforts we were able to collect an additional $3000 of untapped proceeds to support our charitable events. Based on these and other contributions to the NDTA, Ms Heimerman is truly deserving of the recognition provided by the awarding of the National Defense Transportation Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
